Japan, the World Champion in Baseball

Japan is currently the #1 baseball nation in the world, having won gold at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and becoming World Baseball Classic (WBC) champions in 2023.
Baseball is more than a sport here — it’s culture, passion, and unity.

Children’s Day Game: A Family-Friendly Baseball Festival

May 5th is “Children’s Day” in Japan — a national holiday to celebrate kids.
This year, I visited Kyocera Dome Osaka with a friend to see a high-stakes match between Orix Buffaloes and Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters, the top 2 teams in the Pacific League.

Here’s what made it special:

  • Kids did the player announcements
  • Children sang the national anthem
  • A young fan threw the ceremonial first pitch
  • Families filled the stands, smiling and cheering together

Final Thoughts: Why You Should Go

Even if you’re not a baseball fan, you’ll feel the passion.
Japan’s baseball isn’t just about the score — it’s about joy, family, food, and memories.
And with global stars like Ohtani and Yamamoto now in the MLB, seeing the roots of their greatness is a unique experience.

So, when in Japan — go to a game.
Bring your friends, bring your kids.
Feel the #1 baseball country in the world up close.
